SUCCESS Teens - is a skills development, service learning, math and reading enhancement and stipend program for young teens 13 - 15 years of age. SUCCESS means Students Unafraid to Choose Character, Excellence, Strength and Success. The program operates for eight weeks during the summer. Twenty-four (24) low-income youth who receive free/reduced price lunch are eligible to participate. The curriculum includes service learning opportunities six hours a week, educational and fun field trips and speakers on a variety of topics for a full day, Monday through Friday. The youth also receive up to $300 in stipends during the program. SUCCESS Teens is funded in part by the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA). Several teens from this program continue to receive services through the monthly mentoring program, Skills for Life Mentoring.
Registration for the SUCCESS Teens program occurs in May. Pre-application forms can be obtained from many school Guidance Counselors as well as at the program site. |
